About the role
Responsibilities
- Lead mechanical design delivery on multidisciplinary water/wastewater treatment projects across the full design lifecycle
- Act as mechanical technical lead owning design strategy, key decisions, interfaces, risks, and quality of deliverables
- Review and approve mechanical calculations, specifications, datasheets, reports, P&IDs, layouts, and drawings
- Lead equipment selection for pumps, pipework, valves, tanks, and treatment equipment
- Drive multidisciplinary coordination across Process, EICA, civil, structural, and MEP teams
- Promote lean and digitally enabled delivery through BIM/3D coordination and hydraulic analysis
- Mentor and manage engineers, supporting recruitment and chartership progression
Requirements
- BEng/MEng in Mechanical Engineering
- Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status (e.g., IMechE)
- 8–10+ years of mechanical engineering design experience
- Background in water, wastewater, biosolids, or oil & gas
- Expertise in mechanical treatment/process systems and equipment selection
- Strong understanding of UK water industry standards and CDM 2015
- Experience in multidisciplinary coordination and client-facing communication
- Right to work in the UK
Preferred Qualifications
- Deep experience in wastewater treatment, clean water, or sludge/bioresources
- Experience delivering AMP8, WINEP, or D&B projects
- Experience developing mechanical design standards or digital workflows
