Principal Mechanical Engineer

Responsibilities

• Manage and drive projects that deliver unique data center hardware solutions
• Improve design and testing of data center hardware systems, including Cooling Distribution Units (CDU) and direct-to-chip cooling applications
• Design, test, and validate hardware systems and electronics packaging for reliability, acoustics, power, and thermals
• Develop novel liquid and immersion cooling technologies for data centers
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including sales leaders, researchers, and OEM partners, to solve complex water usage and energy efficiency problems
• Protect intellectual property through patenting, licensing, and joint development agreements

Requirements

• Degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline (BS with 5+ years of experience, MS with 3+ years, or PhD)
• Proven experience in mechanical engineering specifically for data center hardware design
• Proficiency in 3D CAD software such as Solidworks or Creo
• Experience using FEA tools and performing tolerance and structural analysis
• Hands-on experience with mechanical design, DFM (Design for Manufacturing), and validation skills
• Knowledge of materials science, manufacturing processes (e.g., injection molding), and industry standards

Preferred Qualifications

• Extensive knowledge of cooling technologies, including cold plates and cooling distribution units
• Experience with electronics cooling, heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and thermal control systems
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and attention to detail skills
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
