Principal Highways Engineer

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of engineers and designers, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement
• Oversee all stages of highway and drainage projects from conception through completion, ensuring adherence to client specifications, budgets, and timelines
• Provide technical leadership in highway design, including road geometry, junction design, and active travel schemes
• Serve as a technical expert to pioneer advanced engineering concepts and innovative solutions for unique project challenges
• Engage with clients, contractors, and public agencies to communicate progress and resolve technical issues
• Manage project budgets, participate in recruitment efforts, and contribute to business development and fee proposals

Requirements

• Bachelor's or postgraduate degree in Civil Engineering or an equivalent qualification
• 12+ years of experience in highway design
• Proven experience managing design teams of various sizes and managing stakeholder relationships
• Proficiency in 3D design software such as Autodesk Civil 3D, Open Roads, Infraworks, or Navisworks
• Extensive knowledge of road geometry, junction design, pavement design, and road restraint systems
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong organizational abilities

Preferred Qualifications

• Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status with a recognized professional institution
• Familiarity with BIM and common data environments (e.g., Bentley ProjectWise, Autodesk BIM 360, or Microsoft SharePoint)
• Knowledge of Autodesk Navisworks
