Principal Forward Deployed Engineer

Responsibilities

• Own the reference architecture for agent identity, delegation, audit, and kill-switch patterns
• Lead the most strategic, regulated, or technically novel deployments
• Review architectures, coach senior engineers, and set field standards
• Synthesize field patterns to shape the product roadmap with engineering leadership
• Represent Okta as a technical authority to CISO, CIO, and Chief AI Officer audiences
• Resolve complex technical and political situations across accounts
• Define standards for authorization latency, scope sprawl, and observability
• Build reusable modules and internal tooling to increase team leverage

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience shipping production software with deep distributed systems and identity expertise
• Mastery of identity protocols: OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SAML, SCIM, RFC 8693, and DPoP
• Fluency in agent security: OWASP Top 10 for Agentic Applications, NIST AI RMF, and MITRE ATLAS
• Expertise in fine-grained authorization (ReBAC/ABAC) using OPA, Cedar, or OpenFGA
• Hands-on experience with AI agent platforms and MCP
• Proven track record of mentoring senior engineers and setting technical direction
• Ability to travel up to 35%
