Principal Firmware/FPGA Engineer

Responsibilities

• Design, analyze, and prototype innovative multi-domain system architectures and real-time embedded systems
• Develop real-time control system architectures to affect the performance of physical systems
• Create sophisticated detection, classification, localization, and tracking (DCLT) algorithms for high-noise environments
• Support the development and testing of experimental testbeds for real-time sensor processing, quantum information, and integrated photonic systems
• Implement and evaluate real-time systems in realistic mission scenarios and conduct operational analysis

Requirements

• STEM degree and minimum 8 years of relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree and minimum 5 years of experience
• Professional experience in FPGA development processes including RTL design, verification, timing analysis, board bring up, and validation
• Strong understanding of Digital Signal Processing (DSP) fundamentals and their implementation on FPGAs
• Experience with high-speed interfaces such as Ethernet, serial point-to-point communication (sFPDP, SPI), and high-speed memory (HBM2, DDR)
• Proficiency in scripting languages such as bash or Tcl
• U.S. Citizenship is required to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with SoC boards running bare metal code or configuring embedded Linux (e.g., Petalinux)
• Experience with RFSoC boards and high-speed analog signal generation and digitization
• Familiarity with building Linux drivers for FPGA peripherals
• Experience with high-level synthesis tools, including BlueSpec System Verilog
• Software development experience in C/C++ and Python
