Principal FA Technician

Responsibilities

• Perform parametric testing on power devices under high-voltage and high-current conditions to identify electrical anomalies
• Utilize Lock-in Thermography (LIT) and Dynamic IR Thermography to locate hot spots and leakage paths
• Execute fine-pitch electrical probing on bare die (BCD/Trench FET/GaN) to isolate failed sub-circuits
• Analyze flip chip on laminate, including die stacking, die attach interfaces, and solder connection integrity
• Prepare high-quality cross-sections of power modules to inspect die attach thickness and interface quality
• Perform mechanical or chemical decapsulation of power modules without damaging the die or embedded vias
• Use Focused Ion Beam (FIB) milling to expose specific layers for SEM imaging and failure identification
• Investigate failure modes related to environmental stress, thermal runaway, and ESD-induced damage
• Develop and optimize Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for sample handling and analysis
• Author detailed failure analysis reports linking physical evidence to actionable design or process improvements
• Oversee calibration and preventive maintenance of high-power test setups and precision equipment

Requirements

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, or Mechanical Engineering
• 8–10 years of experience in Failure Analysis
• Minimum of 5 years specifically focused on Power Semiconductors
• Deep expertise in non-destructive and destructive physical analysis techniques
• Strong understanding of Si Trench MOSFET and GaNHEMT structures and failure mechanisms
• Proficiency in technical writing for complex physical and electrical findings

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Materials Science or Electrical Engineering with a focus on semiconductor reliability
• Certified Failure Analysis (CFA) or similar industry certification
• Experience with wide-bandgap (WBG) technologies and advanced packaging structures
• Proficiency with FA image analysis software (e.g., AMETEK Dage, Oxford Instruments)
• Familiarity with statistical reliability analysis tools such as JMP or Python
