Principal Engineer - Sustainability

Responsibilities

• Undertake technical reviews, peer reviews, and design checks for building services projects
• Develop energy strategies incorporating renewable technologies and low energy designs to satisfy UK planning requirements
• Manage delegated tasks to ensure deadlines are met and flag resourcing concerns to team leaders
• Build and maintain positive professional relationships with the WSP UK team
• Participate in project and team meetings, disseminating information and communicating across WSP departments
• Identify potential risk issues and follow company commercial and contracting processes
• Develop team technical skills and contribute to winning new projects and achieving team utilization targets

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering
• Minimum of 12+ years of relevant work experience in building services design
• Proven design experience specifically related to UK-based projects
• Membership to an accredited engineering body (e.g., MIET, CIBSE, INSRAE, or ASHRAE)
• Proficiency in technical software including HAP, Hevacomp, IES, and SAP
• Deep knowledge of IES-Part L, H&C Load, TM52, TM59, TM54, and Whole Life Carbon assessments
• Strong understanding of UK building codes and technical terminology
• Excellent English communication skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

Preferred Qualifications

• Working knowledge of BS, HTM, NBC, and other local building codes
• Experience in undertaking feasibility studies and developing concepts through to detailed design and tender
