Principal Engineer, Space Payloads

Responsibilities

• Own the technical baseline for programs across systems engineering, hardware, software, and test
• Lead critical program gate reviews from SRR through TRR
• Shape system architecture spanning payload, ground systems, and mission operations
• Oversee engineering performance regarding cost, schedule, and technical objectives
• Advance Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and Digital Engineering standards
• Manage the program Risk Register and proactively mitigate risks
• Act as the primary technical interface for customers, subcontractors, and leadership
• Mentor engineers across disciplines to foster technical excellence

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline
• 12+ years of professional experience
• Active Secret or Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility
• 8+ years of experience leading engineering teams or organizations
• Proven track record delivering complex aerospace or defense systems
• Experience as a chief engineer or technical authority on major defense contracts
• Ability to travel up to 25%
• Ability to work in classified environments 25%+ of the time

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree or PhD in a technical discipline
• Experience with EO/IR, radar, or hyperspectral sensor technologies
• Experience developing command & control or tactical ground systems
• Knowledge of machine learning and Automatic Target Recognition (ATR)
• Hands-on experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methods
