Principal Engineer

Responsibilities

• Own and evolve the technical architecture for the Service Desk product across application, platform, and data domains.
• Set technical vision and strategy for areas spanning multiple teams and services to drive broad product impact.
• Architect and lead major initiatives, including large feature investments, platform changes, and technology modernization efforts.
• Provide architectural leadership for cloud-native solutions on AWS, focusing on scalability, security, and operational resilience.
• Define data architecture decisions, including schema evolution, indexing strategies, and search architecture using MySQL and Elasticsearch.
• Partner with Product Management to influence requirements and ensure solutions are technically sound and aligned with customer needs.
• Mentor senior and staff engineers to scale architectural thinking and technical decision-making across the organization.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree with 15+ years of industry experience, or a Master's degree with 13+ years of experience.
• Proven experience as a Principal Engineer, Architect, or senior technical leader for complex SaaS or enterprise software products.
• Strong proficiency in Ruby on Rails and experience building and scaling production backend services.
• Extensive hands-on experience with AWS cloud architecture and designing distributed systems.
• Deep knowledge of relational databases, specifically MySQL, including schema design and performance tuning.
• Experience with LLM frameworks or modern AI tooling.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical direction to engineers and leadership.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in ITSM, Service Desk, workflow, ticketing, or operational SaaS products.
• Experience working with Elasticsearch for search architecture.
