Principal Engineer - Software Engineering

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of flight management software for fixed and rotary wing military avionics platforms.
• Provide technical mentorship and guidance to development team members regarding software best practices and complex technical challenges.
• Implement and verify updates to flight management software and graphical flight planning/display software.
• Coordinate with platform engineering and software domain teams to identify and track dependencies for shared features.
• Communicate project plans and status updates to agile team members, internal stakeholders, and external customers.
• Champion knowledge sharing and elevate department expertise through formal training and informal mentoring.

Requirements

• STEM degree (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree with at least 5 years of experience.
• Proven experience in the design and development of deliverable, production-grade software.
• U.S. Person status (U.S. Citizen, permanent resident, or protected individual).
• Ability to work onsite in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in the Defense or Aerospace industry.
• Knowledge of avionics systems and DO-178 or similar certification-based development.
• Proficiency in Agile development methodologies.
• Coding experience in Ada, C, or C++.
• Experience with Python scripting.
• Strong systems-based development and technical communication skills.
