Principal Engineer – Shopify Ecosystem

Responsibilities

• Own the end-to-end technical direction, architecture, and development of Cloudinary’s AssetLink Shopify app.
• Ship production code and meaningful improvements to ensure the app feels Shopify-native, meeting enterprise and Plus standards.
• Act as a technical authority for Shopify merchants, agencies, and strategic partners, leading discovery and architecture workshops.
• Translate ecosystem feedback and customer pain points into actionable product requirements and technical roadmaps.
• Drive ecosystem enablement by producing reference architectures, implementation guides, and agency playbooks.
• Manage reliability and operations, including observability, runbooks, and safe rollout strategies to ensure enterprise-scale stability.
• Help define the future engineering function, including hiring and leading a dedicated ecosystem team as adoption grows.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience as a senior software engineer, architect, or technical leader.
• 7+ years of professional experience with JavaScript and Node.js.
• Deep familiarity with Shopify app development, including embedded apps, Admin UX, API/webhook design, and authentication.
• Proven track record of building and maintaining enterprise-scale integrations or platform extensions.
• Strong product instincts with the ability to turn complex feedback into shippable technical scope.
• Executive presence and the ability to communicate effectively with both engineering teams and business stakeholders.
• Ability to travel occasionally (under 10%) for high-leverage partner and customer engagements.
