Principal Engineer - Platform

Responsibilities

• Set technical direction and own the architecture of core systems
• Design and evolve platform architecture across backend services and infrastructure
• Lead technical design for cross-cutting initiatives like multi-tenancy and async workflows
• Identify and eliminate architectural bottlenecks
• Establish best practices for observability, service ownership, and incident response
• Mentor senior engineers and raise technical standards across the organization
• Partner with product and leadership to align technical and business strategy

Requirements

• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience
• Prior principal-level impact in at least one role
• Experience designing and operating large-scale distributed systems
• Strong backend engineering background and architectural judgment
• Proficiency with Node.js or Python
• Experience with PostgreSQL and data-heavy applications
• Knowledge of cloud infrastructure (GCP and/or AWS)
• Experience with Kubernetes and Docker
• Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and observability tools
• Ability to work in-person with a small, high-trust team in New York
