Principal Engineer - Java with Gen AI

Responsibilities

• Architect and scale enterprise-grade GenAI-powered and API-first Open Banking platforms for Commercial and Corporate Banking.
• Integrate LLM-driven capabilities, RAG pipelines, and agent orchestration layers into high-throughput, mission-critical Java-based banking systems.
• Act as a technical advisor to leadership, influencing applications, security, and web technologies to meet complex business needs.
• Lead the strategy and resolution of unique technical challenges, delivering long-term, large-scale engineering solutions.
• Design and implement high-performance distributed systems using Spring Boot, microservices, and event-driven architectures.
• Mentor senior engineers and elevate engineering rigor across the Digital Technology & Innovation team.
• Ensure the deployment of secure, compliant, and observable AI-enabled services within a regulated financial environment.

Requirements

• 7+ years of professional engineering experience.
• Deep expertise in the Java ecosystem, including Spring Boot, REST APIs, microservices, concurrency, and performance tuning.
• Hands-on experience with Python.
• Proven track record of designing and delivering large-scale distributed systems in a production environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• 1-2 years of experience delivering GenAI systems, specifically with LLMs, RAG architectures, embeddings, vector databases, and agent frameworks.
• Strong cloud-native experience with GCP or Azure.
• Experience with event-driven architectures using Kafka or similar technologies.
• Background in Banking or Financial Services (e.g., Payments, Treasury, Lending, or FX).
• Experience implementing AI governance, risk, and model validation frameworks.
• Ability to modernize legacy Java systems through AI augmentation.
