Principal Engineer - Java, Low-latency

Responsibilities

• Provide deep technical leadership for the design, evolution, and modernization of distributed, high-performance compute platforms.
• Architect next-generation grid and distributed computing capabilities to support mission-critical risk computation.
• Lead performance engineering initiatives to improve throughput, reduce latency, and optimize compute costs.
• Drive resiliency, availability, and fault-tolerance improvements for regulator-visible risk calculations.
• Act as a senior technical advisor to leadership, influencing strategic technological opportunities and engineering solutions.
• Mentor senior engineers and foster a culture of high engineering rigor and continuous improvement.
• Champion strategic modernization initiatives, including cloud migration and the adoption of AI/GenAI-driven solutioning.

Requirements

• 7+ years of professional Engineering experience.
• Expert-level proficiency in Core Java, including advanced multithreading, concurrency models, and JVM internals.
• Proven expertise in high-throughput system design and JVM/GC performance tuning.
• Deep understanding of distributed systems, including fault tolerance, scalability, and network partitions.
• Experience with event-driven and messaging systems such as Kafka, JMS, Solace, Aeron, or MQ.
• Strong expertise in SQL and query optimization for high-volume, compute-heavy workloads.
• Hands-on experience working on Linux/Unix platforms in production environments.
• Advanced knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and core computer science fundamentals.

Preferred Qualifications

• Overall 15+ years of Software Engineering experience.
• Experience with reactive and asynchronous programming models, including lock-free and wait-free data structures.
• Experience with distributed caching technologies, particularly Apache Ignite.
• Familiarity with modern DevOps tooling such as GitHub, Jenkins, and UDeploy.
• Prior experience in Capital Markets or Investment Banking, specifically within risk, trading, or regulatory platforms.
• Strong proponent of AI, GenAI, and Agentic AI-based solutioning.
