Principal Engineer - HV Plant

Responsibilities

• Review and assess HV plant design submissions for compliance with National Grid / DNO standards
• Provide technical feedback and recommendations to address design gaps or risks
• Approve final designs once technical, safety, and regulatory requirements are met
• Chair design review meetings and coordinate with other engineering disciplines
• Serve as the primary technical point of contact between National Grid / DNO and Contractors
• Identify potential risks related to safety and reliability and recommend corrective actions
• Maintain comprehensive records of design submissions and approval decisions

Requirements

• HNC or Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related discipline
• Proven experience in HV Plant design, design assurance, or technical approval within the Electricity Transmission or DNO sector
• Strong knowledge of HV infrastructure including substations, transformers, switchgear, and protection systems
• Experience with hazard identification (HAZID) and risk assessments
• Experience working to a structured project design process

Preferred Qualifications

• Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards accreditation
• Experience producing or approving designs for National Grid or DNO projects
• Previous National Grid BP141 Design Assurance Engineer authorisation
• Previous National Grid BP137 Contractor Design Approval Engineer nomination
