About the role
Responsibilities
- Review and assess HV Cable design submissions for compliance with National Grid / DNO standards
- Provide technical feedback and recommendations to address design gaps or risks
- Approve final designs meeting technical, safety, and regulatory requirements
- Chair constructability and design review meetings with stakeholders
- Serve as the primary technical point of contact between National Grid / DNO and Contractors
- Identify potential risks related to safety, reliability, and performance in contractor designs
- Maintain comprehensive records of design submissions and approval decisions
Requirements
- HNC or Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related discipline
- Proven experience in HV Cable project development, design, or technical approval
- Strong knowledge of UK HV infrastructure and multi-disciplinary interfaces
- Experience with safety by design and CDM awareness
Preferred Qualifications
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards accreditation
- Experience with National Grid or DNO project design approval
- Previous National Grid BP141 Design Assurance Engineer authorisation
- Previous National Grid BP137 Contractor Design Approval Engineer nomination
