Principal Engineer - GIS

Responsibilities

• Serve as the enterprise technical authority for GIS engineering, developing spatial data standards, metadata rules, and QA/QC protocols
• Lead enterprise GIS architecture and technology strategy, including LiDAR integration and grid modernization platforms
• Conduct complex geospatial analyses for transmission line routing, environmental constraints, and substation siting
• Develop digital models integrating GIS, LiDAR, survey, CAD, and PLS CADD to support engineering decisions
• Lead the integration of GIS with enterprise systems such as SAP, ADMS/OMS, and transmission engineering platforms
• Mentor GIS engineers and analysts to build organizational capability and ensure best practices
• Support real estate, permitting, and environmental teams with GIS deliverables for state and federal filings

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in GIS, Geomatics, Engineering, or a related technical discipline
• 10+ years of progressive GIS engineering experience in the electric utility or transmission infrastructure sector
• Expertise with ESRI ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online, and geodatabases
• Extensive experience with LiDAR processing, spatial analytics, and GPS survey integration
• Deep understanding of utility transmission and substation asset environments and ROW management
• Proven experience integrating GIS with engineering tools (PLS CADD, AutoCAD) and enterprise systems (SAP)
• Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills to influence decisions across departments

• Master's degree in a related field
• Professional certifications such as GISP
