Principal Electrical Engineer

Responsibilities

• Manage electrical engineering services for small to medium projects, ensuring they meet statutory, regulatory, and customer specifications on time and within budget
• Act as the electrical engineering Lead on specific projects, managing requirements and coordinating with the wider project team
• Oversee technical activities including engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning, such as technical bid evaluations and purchase order preparation
• Provide technical advice and support to junior personnel within the electrical engineering team
• Develop and review key deliverables including MV/LV systems, single line diagrams, schematics, layouts, and electrical calculations
• Proactively resolve discrepancies between company and customer requirements
• Support quality assurance and verification roles for all engineering deliverables

Requirements

• University degree in Electrical Engineering or Applied Science
• Extensive technical and practical experience in electrical engineering, specifically within the Minerals and Metals industry
• Proven experience with surface and underground mining, including shaft sinking and subsurface utilities
• Deep knowledge of HV/MV Substations (Indoor/Outdoor), substation communication architecture, teleprotection, telemetry, and protection Relay programming
• Proficiency with ESCADA and electrical engineering specific software (e.g., ETAP/SKM, SmartPlant Electrical, or CAD)
• Strong understanding of Canadian Codes, standards, and regulatory specifications

Preferred Qualifications

• P. Eng (Ontario) designation or eligibility to register
• Knowledge of Instrumentation
• Experience with revamp and grassroots projects
• Experience with HVAC, Ventilation, and Fire Alarm/control systems
