Principal Design Engineer - Civil & Structural

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage multi-disciplinary civil and structural design projects, ensuring delivery to quality, cost, and schedule criteria.
• Act as Lead Designer or Principal Designer under CDM 2015 regulations, coordinating the pre-construction phase to mitigate risks.
• Manage and mentor a design team, including supervising graduate engineers and trainees.
• Undertake high-level checking of design deliverables, calculations, and technical specifications.
• Collaborate with site construction teams, external consultants, and stakeholders to ensure buildable and safe solutions.
• Support business development through prospecting, tendering, and providing technical expertise for fee estimates.
• Promote "safe by design" principles and consider sustainability and low-carbon options in all infrastructure designs.

Requirements

• Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• 7-10 years of experience within the design and construction industry.
• Professional status as an Incorporated Engineer (I.Eng) or Chartered Engineer (C.Eng).
• Strong working knowledge of CDM 2015 regulations and principles of prevention.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD (2D and 3D) and Revit.
• Full UK Driving Licence.
• Excellent understanding of British Standards and Eurocodes relevant to civil and structural design.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience acting as a Principal Designer or Lead Contractor Design Approval Engineer (CDAE).
• CSCS card as a Professionally Qualified Person (PQP) or Safety Passport.
• Familiarity with ISO 19650 for BIM and document control processes.
• Experience with PLS-CADD or other specialized OHL design software.
