Principal Data Platform Architect

Responsibilities

• Define and own the enterprise data platform architecture across cloud infrastructure, ingestion, storage, transformation, and warehousing.
• Design scalable cloud-native infrastructure on Azure, AWS, or GCP to support batch ETL and real-time streaming workloads.
• Architect the enterprise data warehouse and lakehouse strategy, establishing standards for data modeling and semantic layers.
• Build the technical foundation for ML/AI workloads, including feature stores, ML pipelines, and model serving infrastructure.
• Define standards for Agentic AI frameworks and guardrails for how AI agents interact with data assets.
• Establish platform governance, including data quality frameworks, lineage tracking, and metadata management.
• Provide architectural mentorship to senior and mid-level data engineers and influence engineering culture.
• Partner with business stakeholders to translate operational challenges into platform capabilities.

Requirements

• 10+ years in data engineering, data architecture, or data platform roles.
• Deep expertise in at least one major cloud provider (Azure, AWS, or GCP).
• Hands-on proficiency with modern lakehouse and warehouse technologies such as Snowflake, Databricks, or Delta Lake.
• Strong proficiency in Python and/or Scala, with experience in Spark or distributed compute frameworks.
• Experience with data pipeline orchestration tools like Airflow, Dagster, or Prefect.
• Proven track record of leading architecture decisions and influencing engineering direction across multiple teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with real-time data ingestion and streaming patterns (Kafka, Azure Event Hubs, etc.).
• Background in data mesh or data product thinking and enabling self-service/citizen development.
• Exposure to construction, engineering, or capital-project data environments and ERP systems.
• Relevant cloud or data certifications (e.g., AWS Solutions Architect, Azure Data Engineer, or dbt Analytics Engineer).
