About the role
Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, and implementation of automation controls and instrumentation for assembly and packaging processes
- Develop, prototype, and troubleshoot software and hardware controls including electrical schematics, panel layouts, and networking
- Implement PLC/SCADA application software for manufacturing processes and equipment
- Design and implement complex Machine Vision, Laser, and Measurement Systems for high-speed discrete component assembly
- Manage vendor communications and collaborate on engineering designs to ensure adherence to company guidelines and SOPs
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to build the capability of others within the engineering team
- Utilize hands-on troubleshooting to identify root causes and define solutions for complex automation challenges
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering
- 15+ years of hands-on automation controls design experience
- Extensive experience with PLC/SCADA application software development
- Proficiency in electrical schematics, panel layouts, and device communications
- Strong expertise in motion control, robotics programming, and servo control
- Experience with machine vision systems (e.g., Keyence or Cognex)
- Ability to travel approximately 15% based on business needs
Preferred Qualifications
- Master of Science in Electrical Engineering
- Experience in a regulated or medical device industry
- Knowledge of VFD and Servo drives (AB & SEW preferred)
- Proficiency with ABB robotics
- SQL Server Database knowledge and Visual Basic programming skills
- Familiarity with machine and process safety regulations (CE, UL, SCCR, NFPA-70E/79)
