Principal Compliance Engineer

Responsibilities

• Lead compliance strategy and execution for BESS, DC cabinets, inverters, and related power and controls equipment
• Interpret and apply standards such as UL, CSA, IEEE, IEC, and NFPA to product and project designs
• Act as the subject matter expert on ISO/RTO regulatory requirements including interconnection and grid codes
• Define and manage certification roadmaps for new and existing products
• Coordinate product testing and certification activities with NRTLs and certification bodies
• Develop compliance documentation including test plans, reports, and certification packages
• Support engineering teams to ensure designs meet code requirements from early development stages
• Support project teams during AHJ reviews, permitting, and commissioning

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
• 10+ years of experience in compliance, certification, or regulatory engineering for BESS or power electronics
• 4+ years of experience with UL (9540, 9540A, 1741, 508A), CSA, IEEE, IEC, and NFPA (855) standards
• Deep understanding of safety, thermal runaway, environmental, and performance testing procedures
• Familiarity with ISO/RTO requirements such as ERCOT, PJM, CAISO, or MISO
• Experience managing certification programs with NRTLs like UL, CSA, or Intertek
• Strong project management and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with utility-scale or C&I BESS deployments
• Direct involvement in UL 9540A fire testing or LSFT safety validation
• Knowledge of utility-scale inverter compliance requirements
• Experience supporting permitting and AHJ engagement in the U.S.
• Background in quality systems or regulatory audits
