Principal Civil Engineer

Responsibilities

• Lead the successful delivery of complex roadway, transit, bridge, utility, and urban infrastructure programs in the New York City area.
• Provide strategic oversight, technical leadership, and project governance to achieve client objectives and business outcomes.
• Drive business development by cultivating key client relationships and identifying new market opportunities.
• Mentor and develop engineering, project management, and technical staff to strengthen leadership capability and succession planning.
• Collaborate with transportation leadership to define and implement delivery strategies and growth objectives for the civil engineering team.
• Lead major pursuits and strategic initiatives, providing technical and commercial leadership to position the firm for long-term growth.
• Manage multidisciplinary teams and leverage the firm's global resource network to align technical expertise with project needs.

Requirements

• 20+ years of experience leading the delivery of civil engineering projects or programs, specifically within New York City.
• Proven expertise in project and program management, including budgeting, scheduling, risk management, and change control.
• Demonstrated ability to lead, staff, and mentor multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong contract and commercial management acumen, including scope clarity, payment milestones, and claims management.
• Professional Engineer (PE) registration in New York State is required.
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering; an advanced degree is preferred.
• Familiarity with standards from FHWA, NYSDOT, NYC DOT, MTA, or the Port Authority of NY & NJ.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills for engaging with senior stakeholders and partners.
