Principal Attorney I

Responsibilities

• Provide legal counsel to business units regarding FERC, NYISO, and PSC regulations, including transmission rates, development, and operations.
• Research, analyze, and interpret laws, statutes, and regulations related to energy and utility tariffs.
• Structure, draft, and negotiate complex legal contracts, including power purchase agreements, interconnection agreements, and asset transfer agreements.
• Manage large project closings and asset transfers in coordination with real estate teams.
• Represent the organization's interests in rate cases, litigation, arbitration, and mediation before courts and government agencies.
• Provide mentorship, direction, and review of work product for junior attorneys and legal support staff.
• Evaluate the impact of regulatory changes and provide strategic recommendations to senior leadership.
• Manage outside counsel, develop case strategies, and monitor billing practices.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree.
• Admission to practice in New York State and Federal court.
• Minimum of 8 years of legal experience as a practicing attorney.
• Proven experience with FERC, NYISO, or PSC regulation.
• Expertise in contract drafting and litigation management.
• Experience in energy, utility, commercial, or finance law preferred.
