Principal Applied Scientist

Responsibilities

• Define and evolve the Applied Science operating model across federated business domains
• Establish shared approaches for model development, evaluation, experimentation, deployment and monitoring
• Partner with Data Platform and Engineering teams to shape the Applied Science platform roadmap
• Foster a strong Applied Science community through technical forums and knowledge exchange
• Mentor scientists and support continuous improvement of technical practices
• Contribute to the development of ASOS's broader AI strategy and transformation agenda
• Support the adoption of GenAI and AI-assisted tooling across the lifecycle

Requirements

• Experience leading Applied Science, Machine Learning or AI initiatives in large-scale environments
• Experience delivering production machine learning systems at scale
• Experience working within federated or matrixed organisations
• Experience developing technical standards and governance approaches
• Knowledge of forecasting, predictive modelling, and MLOps
• Experience with LLMs, GenAI, and agentic systems
• Proficiency with Databricks, Azure, or similar modern data ecosystems
• Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with feature stores and orchestration frameworks
• Experience in retail, marketplace, or consumer technology sectors
