Principal Applied AI Researcher

Responsibilities

• Set company-level technical direction for domain-specific model strategy including pre-training, fine-tuning, and post-training
• Architect agentic model development infrastructure for experiment orchestration and data pipeline automation
• Lead research on model adaptation, data curation, and post-training methods like preference optimization and reward modeling
• Define evaluation strategies using benchmark design and expert-grounded assessment
• Mentor senior researchers and shape hiring for the research organization
• Maintain hands-on research impact through technical work, publications, and patents

Requirements

• PhD or MSc in Computer Science, Machine Learning, NLP, or a related field
• 10+ years in AI/ML research with a track record of production impact
• 4+ years developing LLM-based systems
• Deep experience in the full model lifecycle: pre-training, SFT, and alignment
• Experience training models on large GPU clusters using DeepSpeed, FSDP, or Megatron-LM
• Proficiency in Python and PyTorch
• Proven strategic leadership in shaping organizational research direction

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience building domain-specialized models that outperform general-purpose alternatives
• Hands-on experience with RLHF, DPO, and reward modeling
• Expertise in data curation including deduplication and mixture design
• Track record of designing evaluation frameworks for regulated industries
• Publication record at top-tier research venues
• Domain expertise in energy, semiconductor, finance, aerospace, or supply chain
