About the role
Responsibilities
- Lead the physical preservation program for the Libraries' collections, including print materials, in alignment with national standards.
- Develop and manage preservation planning efforts, specifically disaster preparedness, response, and recovery planning.
- Manage administrative operations for the preservation lab, including budget monitoring, equipment procurement, and supply management.
- Supervise, train, and direct the work of staff and student employees, including performance evaluations and mentoring.
- Oversee collections assessment and conservation processes, coordinating with external conservators for complex treatments.
- Identify and manage grant funding opportunities, serving as Principal Investigator for preservation-related grants.
- Represent the Libraries in regional and national preservation consortia and professional outreach activities.
Requirements
- Master's degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution.
- At least 1 year of professional experience in Preservation/Conservation work.
- Demonstrated professional experience in a wide range of Preservation/Conservation treatment procedures for paper-based formats.
- Knowledge of conservation theory and practice.
- Knowledge of book history and bookbinding.
Preferred Qualifications
- At least 3 years of experience supervising staff.
- Experience with disaster recovery procedures for libraries, including off-site materials.
- Strong database skills and experience working with integrated library systems.
