Presenter - Police Academy Defensive Tactics

Responsibilities

• Teach or assist in teaching blocks of instruction for Basic Peace Officer and In-Service courses.
• Coach and evaluate student performance during practical skill demonstrations.
• Develop, revise, and maintain course lesson plans and curriculum guides in accordance with TCOLE standards.
• Act as a role player in practical demonstrations of skills.
• Prepare and submit required reports on time and inform the Academy Coordinator of equipment needs.
• Ensure a safe training environment to protect students, staff, and college property.
• Maintain subject matter expertise through continuous research and reading.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Minimum of 2 years of related paid work experience in law enforcement or criminal justice.
• Experience teaching vehicle extraction, weapon entanglements, and practical application of doctrine and technique.
• Experience designing, instructing, and evaluating control tactics systems for multiple agencies.
• Strong knowledge of Texas Laws (Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedure, Family Code, etc.).
• Ability to perform physically demanding demonstrations requiring high levels of physical exertion.
• Ability to communicate instructional materials effectively in both classroom and practical settings.

Preferred Qualifications

• TCOLE Instructor, DT Instructor, or Firearms Instructor certifications.
• Personal Defense Spray Instructor or AXON Taser Instructor certifications.
• Simunition Safety Certification.
• De-escalation Instructor certification (e.g., MOAB, CPI).
• Previous teaching experience specifically within a Basic Peace Officer Course or Academy In-Service environment.
