About the role
Responsibilities
- Develop and optimize opto-mechanical assembly and alignment processes for co-packaged optics (CPO) applications
- Define and validate optical and mechanical alignment strategies, including passive, active, and hybrid concepts
- Work with and optimize early-stage manual, semi-automated, and automated optical setups
- Translate product and system requirements into stable, repeatable, and scalable manufacturing processes
- Design and evaluate automation concepts for key process steps, focusing on cycle time, yield, and cost drivers
- Prepare developed processes for transfer to internal manufacturing or external partners through detailed documentation and specifications
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Optics/Optical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field
- More than 5 years of hands-on experience in opto-mechanical process development, assembly, and alignment
- Experience in co-packaged optics or closely related high-precision optical/mechanical assembly technologies
- Practical experience with early-stage automation, prototype equipment, or R&D manufacturing setups
- Knowledge of structured process development methodologies such as DoE and FMEA
- Fluent in English (spoken and written)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with optical alignment automation (active alignment, passive alignment, Pick & Place, Bonding)
- Experience with fiber arrays, photonic integrated circuits (PICs), or advanced optical packaging
- Solid understanding of optical alignment principles, tolerances, GD&T, and process capability
- Familiarity with dispensing technologies, bonding processes, and precision handling systems
- Proficiency in CAD software, preferably Creo
