Power Systems Distribution Specialist

Responsibilities

• Build, validate, and maintain distribution power flow models using GIS, CIM, and operational measurements like AMI and SCADA
• Develop real-time technical loss computation workflows to identify hotspots at the feeder and transformer levels
• Design distribution system state estimation methods to handle sparse or noisy measurement data
• Develop simulation workflows for capacity expansion, DER interconnection studies, and voltage regulation
• Perform contingency analysis, reliability studies, and fault current calculations
• Build automated pipelines to transform raw utility GIS and connectivity data into validated power flow models
• Collaborate with ML engineers to define feature engineering requirements for demand forecasting and anomaly detection
• Lead technical conversations with utility partners regarding operational challenges and regulatory contexts

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related field
• 5+ years of experience in distribution power systems analysis
• Strong understanding of power flow, voltage regulation, short circuit, and contingency analysis
• Proficiency in power system simulation tools such as CYME, Synergi Electric, PowerFactory, GridLAB-D, OpenDSS, or ETAP
• Hands-on experience with utility datasets including SCADA, AMI, GIS, and OMS
• Programming proficiency in Python (strongly preferred) or MATLAB for automating analytical workflows
• Experience building distribution network models from real-world GIS and asset data
• Strong communication skills to explain complex analysis to software and ML teams

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional Engineer (P.E.) license
• Experience with distribution system state estimation or real-time power flow applications
• Experience with DER interconnection studies or hosting capacity analysis
• Working knowledge of CIM (IEC 61968/61970) data models
• Familiarity with distribution automation (DA) or ADMS
• Experience with distribution system planning in emerging markets, particularly India
• Understanding of ML/AI applications in power systems
• Experience in a software product environment or agile development
