Power Plant Operator III

Responsibilities

• Monitor, start, and stop power plant equipment while reading gauges and recording activities in operating logs
• Use computers and monitoring equipment to measure, record, and make adjustments within operating parameters
• Perform complex technical maintenance, including diagnosis, repair, and overhaul of mechanical and electrical equipment
• Conduct chemical analysis and control on steam, cooling, and condensate systems and maintain chemistry logs
• Resolve complex technical issues and provide on-the-job skills training to other team members
• Assist in developing standard operational procedures and providing input for plant efficiency and safety improvements
• Ensure compliance with all local, State, and Federal regulations and plant procedures
• Operate heavy equipment such as manlifts and forklifts and handle bulk chemicals safely

Requirements

• High School Diploma, technical/vocational school degree, military service, or equivalent
• 10+ years of directly related experience in power plant operations
• Experience using test equipment and calibration appliances
• Proven experience with machinery repair and control systems
• Strong mechanical aptitude and basic understanding of chemistry, physics, electricity, and mathematics
• Must hold a State of Maine Boiler or Stationary Engineer’s License, or possess the qualifications to meet State Licensing requirements
• Valid state driver’s license
