Power Plant Maintenance Technician

Responsibilities

• Perform precision repair, installation, and maintenance of mechanical components using various tools and equipment
• Follow blueprint sketches and procedures for drilling, tapping, lathe operations, milling, and surface grinding
• Identify mechanical design improvements or problems and recommend modifications
• Maintain logs of time, materials, and procedures for the maintenance management system
• Implement safe working practices and identify environmental hazards
• Coordinate with outside contractors during overhauls and mechanical installations
• Handle plant rigging and lifting equipment for heavy machinery
• Maintain boilers, auxiliary equipment, and perform metal fabrication and welding

Requirements

• High School or vocational school diploma with emphasis on mechanical skills and welding
• 4 years of experience as a mechanic, machinist, or welder, preferably in a power generation environment
• Knowledge of boiler operating principles and power plant machinery
• Proficiency in shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) and gas-tungsten arc welding (GTAW)
• Ability to read and interpret drawings, procedures, illustrations, and sketches
• Ability to pass respirator fit tests and use respiratory protective equipment
• Strong oral and written communication skills
