About the role

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and repair of equipment and process systems within thermal energy plants
  • Perform routine inspections, start-ups, shutdowns, and lockouts of equipment
  • Troubleshoot and maintain systems within the scope of a 4th Class Power Engineer
  • Manage water treatment systems, including daily testing, data logging, and chemical feed adjustments
  • Record operating, maintenance, and safety conditions in digital and written logbooks
  • Maintain plant data including fuel consumption, energy production, and greenhouse gas emissions
  • Monitor and maintain process flows, including conveyors, ash handling, and fuel systems
  • Operate forklifts and other specialized vehicles as required

Requirements

  • Fourth Class Power Engineer Certification (Interprovincial)
  • Mechanical and instrumentation skills related to plant maintenance
  • BC Class 5 or 7 Driver's License in good standing
  • Computer literacy and ability to use digital checklists and communication devices

Preferred Qualifications

  • Recent graduate of an accredited Power Engineering Technology program
  • Experience in high-pressure power generating steam plants or industrial processes
  • Experience with solid fuel handling systems, electrical power generation, or distributed control systems (DCS)
  • Ability to maintain certification for operating UBC fleet vehicles and forklifts
