Postdoctoral Scholar - AI in Earth and Environmental Sciences

Responsibilities

• Develop and apply AI, machine learning, and statistical modeling approaches to large geochemical, hydrologic, and geospatial Earth system datasets.
• Create AI/ML-enabled workflows to characterize energy and environmental systems, including oil and gas well integrity and condition.
• Investigate the application of foundation AI models in catchment sciences, such as riverine hydrogeochemistry and watershed elemental cycles.
• Integrate and manage heterogeneous datasets from multiple sources, including remote sensing, regulatory, and observational data.
• Build reproducible computational workflows for data synthesis, feature engineering, and uncertainty assessment.
• Prepare manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication and present findings at scientific conferences.
• Mentor graduate and undergraduate students in coding, data analysis, and reproducible research practices.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in geoscience, hydrology, geochemistry, environmental science, data science, or a closely related field.
• Demonstrated experience in artificial intelligence, machine learning, or environmental data science.
• Strong quantitative, programming, and data analysis skills.
• Ability to work with complex geospatial, hydrologic, or geochemical datasets.
• Proven scientific communication skills through publications or presentations.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in an interdisciplinary environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with foundation AI models, deep learning, or transfer learning applied to scientific datasets.
• Proficiency in scientific programming with Python or R.
• Experience using reproducible research tools such as Git/GitHub, Jupyter notebooks, or Quarto.
• Knowledge of subsurface energy systems, environmental risk assessment, or catchment sciences.
• Experience integrating diverse datasets like stream chemistry, land cover, and remote sensing products.
