Responsibilities

• Design, execute, and troubleshoot experiments, including the development of novel methodologies
• Analyse complex datasets using computational and statistical tools
• Contribute intellectually to the research direction and identify opportunities for innovation
• Prepare and publish high-quality scientific papers, reports, and presentations
• Present research at national and international conferences
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams within GBI, EIT, and external partners
• Build and maintain research infrastructure and laboratory capabilities
• Mentor and support junior researchers, including PhD students and research assistants
• Translate research findings into commercial or translational opportunities
• Ensure research activities comply with EIT’s policies and best scientific practice

Requirements

• PhD in a relevant field (e.g., synthetic biology, computational biology, genomics, or nucleic acids chemistry)
• Track record of delivering ambitious research projects to a high standard
• Strong background in molecular biology or synthetic biology
• Skilled in data analysis and interpretation
• Experience publishing in high-impact journals
• Ability to work independently and solve complex experimental problems
• Excellent organizational and communication skills
• Experience with large DNA constructs, cell culture, or chromosome behavior techniques (NGS, live-cell imaging, FISH) is desirable

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with genomic analysis, automation, or computational tools
• Ability to build and sustain productive collaborations internally and externally
