About the role
Responsibilities
- Perform laboratory experiments involving CRISPR, molecular biology, and genetics
- Prepare samples for DNA/RNA extractions, PCR, qPCR, and Illumina or long-read sequencing library preparation
- Conduct bioinformatic analysis using programming skills and manage statistical data interpretation
- Prepare research findings, reports, and manuscripts for peer-reviewed publications
- Maintain detailed laboratory notebooks and participate in weekly meetings with PIs to discuss project priorities
- Mentor and supervise undergraduate student researchers
- Manage laboratory equipment, reagents, media, and solutions
Requirements
- Ph.D. in Entomology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, or a related science
- Proven experience with bee viruses and CRISPR technology
- Proficiency in PCR and various molecular biology techniques
- Strong knowledge of honeybee pathogens and viruses
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proficiency in data entry, management, and statistical analysis
- Legal right to live and work in the United States
Preferred Qualifications
- At least 2 years of experience in insect or general molecular biology, pathogenic research, or cellular biology
- Evidence of peer-reviewed publications in pathogens, molecular biology, or genetics
- Experience with Illumina sequencing
- Proficiency in Python or MatLab for image processing, programming, and bioinformatics
- Experience mentoring or teaching students from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds
- Ability to work independently and meet strict research deadlines
