About the Company

Basis is a nonprofit applied AI research organization focused on understanding and building intelligence by establishing mathematical principles of reasoning and decision-making. The Basis Postdoctoral Fellowship is a collaborative initiative between the Basis Research Institute and Cornell University's Ellis Lab.

Responsibilities

• Conduct independent and collaborative research focused on the MARA project
• Develop new methods and algorithms for modeling, abstraction, and reasoning in AI systems
• Apply methods to challenges such as the Abstract Reasoning Corpus (ARC)
• Disseminate research findings through academic publications and presentations
• Engage in knowledge transfer between Basis and Cornell University
• Provide mentorship to junior team members

Requirements

• PhD in computer science, artificial intelligence, machine learning, cognitive science, or related fields
• Strong background in program synthesis, probabilistic programming, or AI reasoning systems
• Demonstrated track record in scientific research (publications or impactful software)
• Interest in foundational AI research

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience developing AI systems that combine neural and symbolic methods
• Expertise in cognitive modeling or active learning
