Postdoctoral Associate

Responsibilities

• Conduct specialized research on the origin, evolution, and construction of electron-transferring proteins (oxidoreductases)
• Perform computer simulations of protein structure and computational protein design of small peptides and proteins
• Synthesize and characterize peptide and protein designs, including structural and functional characterization
• Coordinate multi-investigator and multi-institution collaborative interactions regarding NASA projects
• Prepare scientific manuscripts for publication and contribute to research grant and fellowship applications
• Train and mentor undergraduate students in scientific research projects
• Participate in the configuration and maintenance of laboratory instrumentation and equipment

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Chemistry, or a related scientific field (ABD candidates will be considered)
• Demonstrated expertise in at least two of the following: bioinorganic chemistry, structural biology, microbial genomics, biogeochemistry, bioinformatics, molecular evolution, or synthetic organic chemistry
• Proficiency in spoken and written English

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience with EPR and NMR spectroscopies
• Previous experience in mentoring students
