Postdoctoral Appointee - Experimental Mechanics

Responsibilities

• Conduct material characterization testing and research and development in experimental mechanics
• Work within a cooperative laboratory environment, interacting with various research and application groups
• Document and present research findings to internal and external stakeholders, including scientific conferences
• Integrate laboratory safety techniques and considerations into all experimental work

Requirements

• PhD in Engineering Mechanics, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Applied Physics, or a closely related discipline
• Educational or professional background in experimental solid mechanics
• Experience using servohydraulic or electromechanical test frames
• Proven ability to integrate laboratory safety techniques into experimental procedures
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance (requires U.S. citizenship)

Preferred Qualifications

• Evidence of exceptional research achievements through technical publications or software tools
• Experience with digital image correlation (DIC) and/or digital volume correlation (DVC) techniques
• Experience with thermal/mechanical effects in solids, high-temperature characterization, or time/rate dependent behavior
• Ability to develop new experimental methods, specimen designs, and complex diagnostic apparatus
• Experience testing a broad range of materials including polymers, metals, composites, and ceramics
