Port Captain, Dry Bulk

Responsibilities

• Optimize commercial and operational performance of the dry bulk fleet during port calls and cargo operations.
• Review and approve vessel stowage plans, stability calculations, and stress limits.
• Oversee complex bulk cargo operations in compliance with IMSBC and BLU Codes.
• Supervise critical cargo operations at key ports to protect commercial interests and minimize turnaround times.
• Liaise with stevedores, port agents, terminals, and shippers to coordinate loading and discharging sequences.
• Monitor daily loading rates and vessel draft surveys to ensure accurate cargo intake.
• Manage commercial risks, including cargo contamination, moisture migration, and mechanical breakdowns.
• Coordinate with independent marine surveyors for draft, bunker, and hold cleanliness inspections.
• Verify Statements of Facts (SoF) and port logs to ensure accurate laytime and demurrage calculations.
• Enforce company Safety Management Systems (SMS) and international maritime regulations.

Requirements

• Experience as Master or Chief Officer specifically onboard Bulk Carriers or MPV.
• 2–4 years of shore-based experience in dry bulk operations (e.g., Operations Superintendent, Port Captain, or Cargo Surveyor).
• Comprehensive understanding of bulk carrier stability, draft surveying, and diverse bulk commodities.
• Familiarity with standard dry bulk Charter Party terms and laytime concepts.
• Master Mariner (Class 1 CoC) license is preferred.
