Politics Producer

Responsibilities

• Plan and produce news content for ABC’s Continuous News platforms, including live TV, digital video, and audio from Parliament House.
• Oversee the production of "Afternoon Briefing" and other bulletin rundowns to ensure the immediacy of continuous news output.
• Collaborate with producers, reporters, presenters, and studio crew to deliver high-quality content across multiple platforms.
• Output on-air coverage, including news bulletins, breaking news, and special programming, while providing direction in the control room.
• Develop and maintain strong federal political contacts across party lines to secure access to key voices and guests.
• Write briefs and generate original political interview ideas and stories of national significance.

Requirements

• Relevant tertiary qualifications or demonstrated equivalent skills, knowledge, and experience.
• Proven track record in television news or current affairs.
• Deep experience in Australian politics and the ability to secure senior political talent.
• Strong editorial skills and judgment, with the ability to produce accurate content in accordance with editorial policies.
• Demonstrated experience in a control room environment outputting live news, including live reporter crosses and studio interviews.
• Sound understanding of developing content for video, audio, on-demand digital, and social platforms.
