Police Officer

Responsibilities

• Provide protection and assistance to persons and property on campus, including the enforcement of federal and state laws and college regulations.
• Respond to, investigate, and document criminal, non-emergency, and emergency incidents with accurate case reports.
• Exercise independent judgment in emergency situations involving danger to life or property.
• Provide security for campus special events, social gatherings, and sporting events.
• Coordinate with supervisors regarding departmental goals and work in cooperation with other law enforcement, mental health, and emergency agencies.

Requirements

• High School education or equivalent.
• Current Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (P.O.S.T.) Basic Law Enforcement Certification in good standing.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in police work.
• Minimum of 21 years of age.
• Valid driver’s license.
• No felony convictions.
• Ability to pass a physical exam and drug test.
• Ability to perform heavy work, including lifting up to 100 pounds occasionally.

Preferred Qualifications

• Substantive knowledge and experience with community policing principles and practices.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain effective relationships with a diverse campus community.
• Proficiency in the maintenance and use of firearms.
• IT literacy and proficiency in operating standard office equipment.
