Police Officer

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive law enforcement, safety, and security services to students, faculty, staff, and visitors
• Respond to calls for service, fire alarms, and intrusion alarms, taking appropriate enforcement or protective action
• Patrol campus by vehicle and on foot to ensure safety and control access to designated areas
• Conduct preliminary and follow-up investigations, including interviewing witnesses and collecting physical or digital evidence
• Prepare detailed written reports, case files, and documentation in accordance with legal standards
• Perform traffic, parking, and crowd control for campus events and special functions
• Render emergency medical assistance, including First Aid, CPR, and AED use, when necessary
• Participate in community-oriented policing and crime prevention initiatives to build positive campus relationships
• Support the continuous improvement of departmental operations and service delivery

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Current North Carolina Driver License with a clear driving history
• Current NC Law Enforcement Officer certification (BLET) or the ability to obtain it within 8 months of hire
• Ability to pass a basic physical fitness assessment
• Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and emergency call-backs
• Ability to perform medium physical work, including walking extended distances and lifting up to 50 pounds
