Police Officer

Responsibilities

• Provide proactive patrols to protect lives and property and respond to community calls for service
• Detect suspicious activities, criminal acts, incidents, and accidents
• Prepare detailed incident reports and testify in court as a witness or to present evidence
• Enforce state motor vehicle traffic laws and investigate traffic crashes
• Manage large crowds and special event control operations
• Respond to emergency situations including medical incidents, weather emergencies, and catastrophic events
• Operate and maintain security access systems and communicate via the communications center

Requirements

• Valid Louisiana driver's license
• Valid Civil Service test scores for 2100 — Protective Services Exam (PSE)
• Ability to lift 50 pounds and perform physically strenuous activity
• Ability to work in all weather conditions, including overtime and weekends
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Ability to pass a drug screen and background check

Preferred Qualifications

• POST (Peace Officer Standards and Training) certification from a Louisiana-accredited training academy
• Experience as a Police Officer 2 (1 year of law enforcement experience) or Police Officer 3 (2 years of law enforcement experience)
