Police Officer

Responsibilities

• Uphold and enforce laws, ordinances, and University policies.
• Respond to criminal, medical, fire, and other campus emergencies.
• Investigate crimes, student conduct violations, and Title IX matters using an equitable and non-judgmental process.
• Conduct proactive campus patrols using a community policing approach to engage with students, faculty, and staff.
• Ensure the physical security of University property and identify potential hazards.
• Support campus activities through event security, parking enforcement, and traffic management.
• Provide community services such as lost and found, room lockouts, and vehicle assistance.
• Produce clear, concise, and accurate incident reports.

Requirements

• Current, valid certification by the Ohio Peace Officer Training Council (OPOTC).
• Ability to legally own and carry a firearm in the State of Ohio.
• Valid Ohio driver’s license with a good driving record.
• Ability to pass an extensive background investigation, drug screen, and psychological testing.
• Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a diverse, multi-cultural university environment.
• Ability to physically perform duties, including running, walking, and wearing equipment weighing up to 25 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous work experience as a police officer.
• Experience in decision-making, problem resolution, and de-escalation of difficult situations.
• An Associate degree or relevant college-level coursework.
