About the role
Responsibilities
- Uphold and enforce laws, ordinances, and University policies.
- Respond to criminal, medical, fire, and other campus emergencies.
- Investigate crimes, student conduct violations, and Title IX matters using an equitable and non-judgmental process.
- Conduct proactive campus patrols using a community policing approach to engage with students, faculty, and staff.
- Ensure the physical security of University property and identify potential hazards.
- Support campus activities through event security, parking enforcement, and traffic management.
- Provide community services such as lost and found, room lockouts, and vehicle assistance.
- Produce clear, concise, and accurate incident reports.
Requirements
- Current, valid certification by the Ohio Peace Officer Training Council (OPOTC).
- Ability to legally own and carry a firearm in the State of Ohio.
- Valid Ohio driver’s license with a good driving record.
- Ability to pass an extensive background investigation, drug screen, and psychological testing.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a diverse, multi-cultural university environment.
- Ability to physically perform duties, including running, walking, and wearing equipment weighing up to 25 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous work experience as a police officer.
- Experience in decision-making, problem resolution, and de-escalation of difficult situations.
- An Associate degree or relevant college-level coursework.
