About the role
Responsibilities
- Command and administer a division, unit, or work group within the Police Department
- Provide executive leadership, strategic direction, and operational oversight
- Plan, direct, and evaluate division operations and coordinate services with internal units, city departments, and outside agencies
- Supervise Lieutenants, Sergeants, and professional support staff by establishing goals and priorities
- Provide command-level direction during major incidents or extraordinary situations
- Maintain highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and accountability
- Interpret policies, collective bargaining agreements, and applicable laws
- Manage staffing, resources, and annual budget expenditures
- Collaborate with City leadership, public officials, and community organizations to develop strategic partnerships
Requirements
- Associate’s Degree from an accredited college AND five years of experience in a supervisory/management role with a law enforcement agency
- OR 15 years of law enforcement experience progressing through supervisory/management positions with at least five years at the rank of Lieutenant or equivalent
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to obtain OPOTA certification within 12 months of appointment
- Must pass a background investigation, medical examination, and drug/nicotine testing
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration, Criminal Justice, or a related field
- Completion of CLEE, Ohio Public Safety Leadership Academy, FBI National Academy, or SMIP
- Advanced law enforcement management training courses such as PELC
