Police Lieutenant

Responsibilities

• Manage an assigned operational unit, such as the patrol division, and supervise sergeants and police officers
• Enforce laws, rules, regulations, and campus policies
• Direct day-to-day activities of assigned shifts, including personnel deployment and resource allocation
• Assume command at the scene of major incidents, emergencies, or criminal events
• Oversee the Field Training Officer (FTO) program and serve as the Department Training Officer
• Review and approve subordinate reports, including arrest and incident reports, for legal compliance
• Conduct preliminary internal investigations into misconduct allegations
• Coordinate with university departments like Student Affairs and the Office of Title IX

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED (B.S. degree preferred)
• Minimum 21 years of age
• At least 5 years of full-time experience as a certified police officer
• At least 1 year of full-time supervisory experience
• Alabama law enforcement certification (or ability to obtain within 6 months)
• Valid Alabama Driver License with a good driving record
• Current firearms certification and first aid/CPR certification
