About the role
Responsibilities
- Perform journey-level plumbing functions including inspecting, maintaining, repairing, and installing campus infrastructure and building systems.
- Assemble, install, and repair pipes made of metals (iron, steel, brass, copper, lead) and nonmetals (glass, vitrified clay, plastic).
- Install and repair pipe fittings, valves, and fixtures for heating, water, and drainage systems.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical specifications to develop layouts.
- Operate and maintain plumbing trade tools, including oxyacetylene torches, soldering equipment, and mechanical pipe threaders.
- Conduct hydrostatic or air pressure and flow tests on water, air, and natural gas lines.
- Maintain a clean and safe job site, ensuring all safety practices and codes are observed.
Requirements
- Satisfactory completion of a certified 4-year trade-related apprenticeship program.
- Valid City of Los Angeles or California State Journeyman Plumbing License.
- Valid CA noncommercial Class C Driver's License.
- Working knowledge of the Uniform Plumbing Code, NFPA, UBC, OSHA, and ADA requirements.
- Demonstrated experience in domestic, industrial, commercial, or process piping.
- Ability to lift or lower objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work in confined spaces wearing full protective respirator equipment.
- Ability to work various shifts, including overtime and weekends (Schedule: 10:00 PM - 6:30 AM).
- Ability to distinguish between colors.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification of Medical Gas Piping and Medical Brazing.
- Backflow Prevention Certification.
- Valid C36 license.
- Working knowledge of asbestos removal.
