About the role

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair issues related to plumbing system performance or failure
  • Conduct job layouts, including estimating labor hours, materials, and support staff needed
  • Maintain accurate records of labor and materials ordered and work order entries
  • Monitor building conditions using the energy management system
  • Work independently and coordinate with other trades and facilities team members
  • Oversee outside contractors to ensure work meets university standards
  • Supervise apprentices and casual wage hires as needed
  • Perform outdoor work and work in various environmental conditions, including confined spaces and heights

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Certificate from a 4+ year accredited plumber apprentice program, or graduation from a 2-year trade school plus one year of journeyperson level experience
  • At least four consecutive years of experience as a full-time journeyperson in a plumbing-related field
  • Valid driver's license in accordance with University policy
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays for emergency repairs

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a high-pressure steam environment
  • Demonstrated ability to weld steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and other specialty metals
  • Working knowledge of control system principles and steam boilers
  • Experience with water conditioning equipment and commercial kitchen equipment
  • Experience diagnosing and servicing LP and Natural Gas boiler systems and water heaters
