Platform Scientist, Soft Materials

Responsibilities

• Ideate, prototype, and transfer new experimental concepts for AI Science Factories targeting complex and soft material systems
• Collaborate with chemistry, materials, and AI teams to define approaches to formulation and structure–property relationships
• Lead conceptual development of characterization workflows using SAXS, SANS, rheology, and performance assays
• Design, prototype, and validate custom apparatus, experimental methods, and software tools
• Transfer successful prototypes into production-ready systems within the AI Science Factory platform

Requirements

• MS or PhD in Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or a related field
• Focus on soft or complex materials
• Experience collaborating across scientific disciplines
• Hands-on experience with SAXS, SANS, rheology, or formulation performance assays
• Experience designing custom experimental workflows or scientific software
• Strong programming skills in Python, C++, or similar for data analysis or automation

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with lab automation or high-throughput experimentation
• Background in formulation science (consumer products, coatings, energy, or bio-soft matter)
• Experience linking scattering and rheological data to ML-driven models
• Familiarity with 3D printing, machining, or microfluidics
• Industry or national lab experience in soft materials
